Description :

Create a traditional and decorative swing for a Balkrishna idol with clay modelling techniques and Fevicryl Acrylic Colours. This project combines intricate designs with vibrant colours to celebrate the festive spirit.

STEP 1 : Prepare the Base and Build the Clay Work
  • We are going to make a zhoola (swing) for a Krishna idol using corrugated sheet, Mouldit, and Acrylic Colours.
  • To make the base of the zhoola, mark and cut the corrugated sheet to 5” x 8”.
  • Use thick pieces from the corrugated sheet to make the legs for the base.
  • Cover the base with a slab made from the mixture of Mouldit resin base and hardener.
  • Use clay carving tools to create designs on the base and leave 2 big holes for attaching the pillars of the zhoola.
STEP 2 : Make the Pillars and Attach to the Base
  • Roll the dough to create a medium-thin slab using a rolling pin.
  • Take 2 thick wooden sticks for the pillars and cover them with the clay slab using Fabric Glue.
  • Use clay modelling tools to create patterns on the pillars.
  • Attach the pillars to the zhoola base with a small amount of clay and Fabric Glue.
  • Let it dry.
STEP 3 : Build the Peacock Design
  • Use clay and a piece of corrugated sheet to make the peacock design on the top of the pillars.
  • Use clay modelling tools and Fabric Glue for this step.
  • Cut a 2” broad strip from thick corrugated sheet for the support beam of the pillars.
  • Cover the strip with a clay slab using Fabric Glue.
  • Attach the support beam to join the two pillars with a small amount of clay and Fabric Glue.
  • Create 2 loops with metal wire and attach them to the support beam.
STEP 4 : Make the Asana for the Idol
  • Use a 4” x 4” MDF coaster to make the asana (seat) for the idol.
  • Decorate the MDF base with back and hand rests using corrugated sheet and clay, with the help of clay modelling tools and Fabric Glue.
  • Create 4 loops with metal wire on the asana base to attach the metal chain.
STEP 5 : Final Attachments of Zhoola
  • Attach the asana base to the support beam with a metal chain to complete the zhoola.
  • Attach a piece of chain to the front side of the asana to make it workable.

STEP 6 : Paint the Zhoola and Finishing Touches
  • Paint the zhoola/swing with an antique metal effect using Acrylic Colours Black 02 and Pearl Metallic Gold 352.
  • Let it dry completely.
  • Use velvet fabric to create the base and a pillow for the idol. Stick the velvet fabric to the asana base with Fabric Glue.
  • Stuff the pillow with cotton.
  • Refer to the image for the final look.
  • Your zhoola for Balkrishna idol is ready.
